The Oakland Press has published an article on The Demented Duo, Twiztid. In this article Gary Graff looks at what Twiztid has either recently released (soda, “Trapped,” "The Green Book"), working on (movies), or upcoming releases (new album). One thing I wanted to highlight from this album is that it looks like Twiztid's new album will feature their backing band The Wickedness. Read the full article below.
You’ll never catch the two members of Twiztid slacking off. Drop the proverbial needle at any given moment in the world of the Livonia-based rap duo and you’ll find plenty of activity either going on or being planned for the group itself or others who are part of their Magik Ninja Entertainment . And that’s just the way Jamie “Madrox” Spaniolo and Paul “Monoxide” Methric like it. “We like to always keep ourselves busy,” Madrox 40, says by phone. “More times than not, even if we don’t want to be busy there are things that need to be done -- which is always a good thing. It’s never a complaint. We can do anything.” The summer certainly isn’t any different for Twiztid. A quick perusal of the current list includes: • “The Green Book:” Twiztid has released a new version of its third album from 2003, which Madrox says “was always a special record to us, so it’s great to catch everybody up on it now.” The duo acquired rights for it from Insane Clown Posse’s Psychopathic Records, its previous label, and is pressing the reissue on green vinyl for what Madrox considers “the definitive version” of the set. “I’m a child of the 80s, and I remember records coming out all the time with colored vinyl and (stuff) like that. That made that (stuff) special to me,” he says. • A New Album: Twiztid is in the midst of recording its next studio album, the follow-up to 2015’s “The Darkness.” Madrox reports that the group and it’s backing band, Wickedness, is about 12 songs in but are “still turning the knobs to find a few bonus tracks and things. “It’s really universal,” he says of the album’s sound. “We’re tired of having to pigeonhole ourselves into just, ‘You do this, so you have to sound like this.’ We’re having fun. If we want to do a song that gets us hyped, we’re gonna do it. And if we want to do something a little more chill, we’re gonna do that, too. “I know everybody says it, but this literally has something for everybody -- except maybe Young Country. There are no boundaries. We really want to have fun and show what we’re capable of.” • The “Trapped” EP: Twiztid released the short set for ICP’s Gathering of the Juggalos festival in July, which Madrox says helped kick the group back into recording mode. “It’s like a light switch, on-off,” he says. “It’s a completely different style from what we’re doing for (the album), but I think it influenced some of the songs we recorded for that.” • Movies: Twiztid has been developing a couple of movie ideas, while Madrox and Monoxide both harbor some acting ambitions. “It’s harder than you would ever know,” Madrox says. “There comes a time when you literally just have to do your own movie if it’s something you want to do. We’re still rounding out scripts and stuff like that. Right now the music takes precedence, but we’ll get to that, too.” • Soda pop: Twiztid fans can now toast the group with their own customized soft drinks -- Sour Apple Sludge and Redrum Strawberry Soda. “It makes a nice mixer, too,” Madrox reports, who recommends the Sludge with some Crystal Head vodka. But he says and Monoxide still have loyalty to their favorite home town drink maker. “I still tweet out Faygo,” he says. “You can’t not love ‘em.”
