Emmy nominated rapper and recording artist, T.O.N.E-z, best known for the hit "Long Hard Times to Come”, the cross-genre, country-rap theme song from the FX Network drama series "Justified”, now has a brand new album coming out entitled, Roses & Poison 3.7, which is set to be released on April 19. Gangstagrass, the Brooklyn-based collaboration between T.O.N.E-z, mashup artist Rench and a top-notch bluegrass band, produced a groundbreaking success with “Long Hard Times to Come”. The song pulled in over 1.5 million views on YouTube, became the show’s most popular download, earned an impressive Emmy nomination for the artists and has led to creative partnerships which are still flourishing today. T.O.N.E-z was first inspired by his brother, hip-hop legend Special K, who was part of the pioneering group, The Treacherous Three, along with Kool Moe Dee. He initially broke onto the scene under the name of “Style” and signed with Select Records who represented artists at the time such as Kid ‘N Play. T.O.N.E-z told AXS.com that years after he left the label and eventually went on to create a new genre of music with the theme song from “Justified”, getting to work with such talent as producer/writer Graham Yost, known for movies like “Speed” and “Broken Arrow”, as well as actor Timothy Olyphant, inspired him to explore his creativity, so he took the leap, made the crossover, and soon began appearing on the FX show as a recurring character during season four. Since then he’s continued with his acting career. T.O.N.E-z played the character of Victor in the 2015 film "Frances Stein", written and directed by P.J. Woodside. He also starred in and co-wrote the horror film “Sed – (Thirst)” with Rel/event founder Erman Baradi, which was produced by Magali Widmer and directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jacqui Blue. T.O.N.E-z also worked with Jacqui on the independent feature documentary called “I Choose Life”, which tackles the very difficult subject of suicide and also stars Jared Padalecki from The CW hit show, “Supernatural”. Thanks to the tremendous work he did on “Justified”, one creative musical partnership that T.O.N.E-z made was with actress and singer extraordinaire, Alicia Witt. Produced by Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five, the pair collaborated on the song, “Down”, as well as “My Baby Girl”, and recently recorded a brand new track together for T.O.N.E-z' upcoming album called, “Movin’ On”. This talented artist and his unique ability really speak to his fans through his storytelling and cross-genre capabilities has a long list of veteran musicians that he makes magic with such as Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Artimus Pyle, the legendary drummer from Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as the one and only Tommy James from Tommy James and the Shondells. T.O.N.E-z shared with AXS.com that all of his creative endeavors come from a place of experience. He said that when it comes to music, he hopes what the listener takes away from it, is whatever they want. Whether they love it or hate it, the fact that they took the time to listen to it is all that matters. They key is to just be aware. And to remain connected.
