Official Dirtcore Music "Grounds" Signing Press Release:
“Proving Grounds” July 24th, 2024. Grand Rapids, MI Crossworm signs “Grounds” to Dirtcore Music, marking a pivotal moment in the Label’s expansion into Rock, Alternative, and Metal. Grounds’ Alternative Rock single “The Little Things” debuts on all platforms, with Crossworm on board as mixing and mastering engineer. —----------- GROUNDS, aka Rob Grounds, is a multigenre producer / singer-songwriter from Farmington, MO., most well known for leading the alternative rock band “It Comes in Waves” and his vocal contributions to WHISKYGIRL. Grounds grew up in the foster care system in the Midwest Bible belt area of Missouri. Having been exposed at an early age to domestic violence and sexual abuse, isolation and depression became the closest thing to stability he had. His youth would see him and his 2 older brothers bounce between women's shelters with their mother as she fled abusive relationships until Grounds was finally sent into the foster care system when she was incarcerated for arson in 2002. At this point, the already fractured sense of purpose seemed to become an inescapable chokehold. He would continue being physically beaten and verbally abused with no assistance from Child Protective Services regardless of numerous calls from neighbors and school staff. At 16 years old, after finally being placed into the home of his father, Grounds began being medicated with seroquel and lithium for his depression and extreme mood swings. During a visit with a physician, it was suggested that because he connected so deeply with the music of bands like Linkin Park and Three Days Grace, he should try writing music or poetry to express himself in non-violent ways. He quickly found his calling and was invited to front multiple local bands, and even formed a hip-hop duo which would go on to release 2 full length albums. In 2015 Grounds began writing more alternative rock/metalcore music which would become the early demos for the band It Comes in Waves. Through this band, Grounds found success in his endeavors as record labels began offering contracts prior to a debut release based on early demo recordings. The band would go on to share the stage with acts such as Asking Alexandria, Escape the Fate, Bless the Fall and More. In 2021, after spending a handful of years offering writing and recording services for other artists and bands, Grounds began performing vocals as a featured artist with the band WHISKYGIRL and in 2023, with the release of the album "The Identity Collective", Grounds announced an indefinite hiatus from ICIW and would begin writing new music with intent to release as a solo act.
